Op Art which means “Optical Art” began in the 1950s. It’s an influence of Kinetic Art. Different perceptions and its effects were discovered by artists during this movement.
Victor Vasarely is the first artist who implemented perceptual effects in designs of his paintings. “The responsive eye” an exhibition at Museum of Modern Art exhibited artworks by Op Art artists Victor Vasarely, Bridget Riley, Jesus Rafael Soto and many more. The concept of these paintings was to see the various effects on the human eye.
