Neo impressionism emerged in the late 19th century, during a time when science was given importance.
The concept of neo-impressionism was placing small dots of different colours throughout the painting implementing the optical science. The visual sensation of a painting, like the noise in a photograph, enhanced by placing contrasting colours in the form of dots and small patches with tiny brushstrokes.
Some of the famous artworks are:
A Sunday afternoon on la grande Jatte, 1886 by Georges Seurat.

La Récolte des Foins, éragny, 1887 by Camille Pissarro

Self portrait with Felt hat, 1888 by Vincent Van Gogh

Portrait of Félix Fénéon, 1890 by Paul Signac
