Geometric abstraction began in the 20th century. It is an art form which represents abstraction based on geometric forms arranged in non-illusionistic area.
The compositions in Geometric abstraction is non-objective. Artist Piet Mondorian and members of De Stijl movement group made many pintings in the abstract form which conveyed reality.Implementation of straight lines with verticle-horizontal principle and spectral colours were observed in the paintings.Artist Kazimir Malevich called this as suprematism i.e. non-objective geometrical forms floating in white unstructured space. In cubism there were two types, analytical and synthetic, where the synthetic type of cubism used foreign materials like wood, paper, metal etc. This influenced the artist Vladimar Tatlin who used materials of geometric forms in his paintings. This method lead to constructivism.
Some of the famous paintings are:
Relational painting number 64, 1953 by Fritz Glarner,

Dynamic Suprematism by Kazimir Malevich.

Standing figure, 1936 by Jean Hélion

Mechanical elements, 1920 by Fernand Léger
